Biratnagar’s Unbeaten Run Ends with Defeat to Chitwan; Ranjit Takes Five Wickets

Kathmandu – Chitwan Rhinos’ Ranjit Kumar took five wickets to end Biratnagar Kings’ unbeaten run in the Nepal Premier League (NPL).

 

Chasing the target of 175 runs set by Chitwan, Biratnagar were bowled out for 126 runs in 16.5 overs. Biratnagar’s top scorer was Merchant de Lange with 39 runs, while Pratish GC scored 30 and Sam Hazlett made 22. Other players failed to reach double digits: Lokesh Bam scored 7, Shubham Ranjane 6, and Naren Bhatt, George Munsey, and Narayan Joshi all scored 4 runs each. Basir Ahmad and Surya Tamang were dismissed without scoring.

 

For Chitwan, along with Ranjit Kumar’s five-wicket haul, Kamal Singh Airee took two wickets, while captain Kushal Malla, Saif Zaib, and Sohail Tanvir claimed one wicket each.

 

After losing the toss and being sent in to bat, Chitwan had scored 174 runs for 5 wickets. For Chitwan, Ravi Bopara top-scored with 65 runs, while David Milan scored 17, Dev Khanal 27, Saif Zaib 32, and Deepak Bohara 5. Captain Kushal Malla remained unbeaten on 20 runs.

 

For Biratnagar, captain Sandeep Lamichhane and Merchant de Lange took two wickets each, while Shubham Ranjane took one.

 

Before this match, Biratnagar—led by Sandeep Lamichhane—had won three consecutive matches in the NPL. Biratnagar had defeated Pokhara Avengers by 53 runs, Kathmandu Gorkhas by 5 wickets, and defending champions Janakpur Bolts by 9 runs.

 

On the other hand, Chitwan had beaten Karnali Yaks by 4 wickets in their first match but lost to Lumbini Lions by 6 wickets in their second match.
