Bhutan National Cricket Team Set for Four Practice Matches in Pokhara

Kaaski : The Bhutan national cricket team is set to play four friendly practice matches at the cricket ground of Pokhara Stadium on the occasion of World Tourism Day.

The Bhutanese men’s national cricket team is visiting Pokhara as part of its preparations for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Sub-Regional Qualifier A.

With support from the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and under the organization of the Gandaki Province Cricket Association, the Bhutanese team will play four practice matches in Pokhara, said association President Sanjay Kant Sigdel.

According to Sigdel, Bhutan selected Pokhara as its practice destination ahead of the tournament, which is scheduled to begin in Malaysia on October 3. The practice matches are expected to contribute to the development of cricket in Pokhara, promote sports tourism and help establish the city as an international sporting destination.

“These practice matches will be important in further strengthening the relationship between Pokhara’s cricket infrastructure, sporting activities and tourism,” Sigdel said.

According to the schedule, Bhutan will play two practice matches against the Gandaki Province cricket team on September 27 and 28, followed by two matches against CAN XI on September 30 and October 1. All four matches will be held at the Pokhara cricket ground.

The first match between Bhutan and Gandaki Province on September 27, World Tourism Day, is being viewed as an important opportunity to connect cricket with tourism.

Suman Raj Karki, secretary of the Gandaki Province Cricket Association, said the association has a long-term goal of developing Pokhara as a centre for national and international cricket activities.

“We believe the visit of Bhutan’s national team to Pokhara will contribute to promoting sports tourism, expanding international sporting relations and further strengthening Pokhara’s national and international identity. It will also help create an environment for the regular hosting of national and international cricket activities,” Karki said.
