World Cup Global Qualifier: Nepal Lose to Thailand

Kathmandu –  Nepal suffered an eight-wicket defeat against Thailand in the opening match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier.

In the match played at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Thursday, Thailand comfortably chased down Nepal’s target of 123 runs, reaching the total in 16.5 overs with the loss of just two wickets. Nattakan Chantham starred for Thailand, scoring an unbeaten 57 runs off 29 balls, including nine fours and one six.

Nanapat Koncharoenkai scored 32 runs, while Apisara Suwannachonrathi added 28 runs. For Nepal, Sita Rana Magar took both wickets. Earlier, after losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Nepal were bowled out for 122 runs in the allotted 20 overs.

Bindu Rawal was Nepal’s top scorer with 44 runs off 56 balls, hitting six fours. Samjhana Khadka made a quick 26 off 11 balls, while Rubina Chhetri scored 17 runs off 10 balls, including two sixes and a four. Puja Mahato contributed 12 runs, but the remaining batters failed to reach double figures.

For Thailand, Thipatcha Putthawong claimed three wickets, while Onnicha Kamchomphu took two wickets. Chanida Sutthiruang, Suliporn Laomi, and Sunida Chaturongrattanaporn picked up one wicket each. Nepal will play their second match of the tournament against the Netherlands on Magh 8.
