Kathmandu- During the fourth Test between India and England at Old Trafford, Manchester, a dramatic moment unfolded in the 68th over that dealt a sudden blow to Team India, which had looked to be in a strong position while batting first.
Rishabh Pant injured himself while attempting a reverse sweep to a yorker-length delivery bowled by Chris Woakes.
Pant was visibly in pain, and the discomfort was evident on his face. The Indian team physio rushed to the field to assist him, but there wasn’t much improvement. Pant initially tried to walk off the field with support, placing his hand on the physio’s shoulder and hopping on one leg. However, due to the pain, a golf buggy had to be called in to carry him off the field.
Pant sustained the injury while batting on 37 runs off 48 deliveries. He was hurt when he tried to reverse sweep Woakes’ yorker-length ball. The ball struck near the little toe on his right foot, causing a cut that began bleeding. Swelling soon developed in the area, and he was seen writhing in pain. Given the severity of the injury, he was taken to the hospital by ambulance for scans.
The BCCI has since provided an update, confirming that the injury is being assessed and that further details will be shared following medical evaluation.
