Kathmandu- India comfortably defeated Pakistan by 61 runs in the ICC T20 World Cup on Sunday.
Chasing a target of 176 runs, Pakistan were bowled out for just 114 runs in 18 overs.
For Pakistan, only Usman Khan showed strong resistance, scoring 44 runs off 36 balls, including six fours and one six. Shadab Khan added 14 runs, while Shaheen Afridi contributed 23 runs toward the end.
Among the Indian bowlers, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakravarthy each claimed two wickets.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Pakistan invited India to bat first. India posted 175 runs for the loss of seven wickets.
Although India looked set for an even bigger total, they were restricted to 175 — a score that later proved challenging for Pakistan.
After Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for zero, opener Ishan Kishan played a brilliant innings of 77 runs off 40 balls, hitting 10 fours and 3 sixes. Following his dismissal, India’s scoring rate slowed.
Tilak Varma scored 25 runs, captain Suryakumar Yadav added 32, and Shivam Dube contributed 27 runs.
For Pakistan, Saim Ayub was the most successful bowler, taking three wickets for 25 runs.
With this victory, India strengthened their chances of reaching the Super 8 stage, registering their third consecutive win to collect six points. Pakistan slipped to third place in the group.
In the same group, the United States are currently in second position. Chasing a 200-run target, Namibia managed only 168 runs for the loss of six wickets.
