Why Was Jayden Seales Penalized?

Kathmandu –  West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales was fined 15% of his match fee and received one demerit point for giving a send-off to Pat Cummins on the first day of the Barbados Test against Australia.

Cummins was caught at mid-off for 28 runs off 18 balls in the 55th over, after which Seales gestured toward the dressing room while celebrating. This act was considered a violation of the ICC Code of Conduct.

According to the ICC, Seales breached Article 2.5, which states:

“Using language, actions or gestures which disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon their dismissal during an international match.”

Seales took 5 wickets for 60 runs in Australia’s first innings.
After the day’s play, he said, “I didn’t really mean anything by it. It was just a bit of frustration. Pat had hit a few good shots off me, so I just showed him the way to the dressing room — nothing more to it.”

This was Seales’ second disciplinary offence, and he now has two demerit points within a 24-month period.

Australia were bowled out for 180, and West Indies ended Day 1 at 57 for 4. They were eventually dismissed for 190 on Day 2.
