Kathmandu – Nepal secured a consolation victory in the ICC T20 World Cup.
After suffering defeats in three consecutive matches, Nepal defeated Scotland by 7 wickets in their fourth match.
This is Nepal’s first win in the T20 World Cup in 12 years. With this victory, Nepal also concluded their World Cup campaign.
Both teams had already been eliminated from the group stage before this match. Earlier, Nepal had lost to England, Italy, and the West Indies.
In the match held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India, Scotland, after losing the toss and being invited to bat first, scored 170 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
For Scotland, opener Michael Jones scored a half-century. He contributed 71 runs off 45 balls, including eight fours and three sixes. George Munsey added 27 runs, while Brandon McMullen scored 25.
For Nepal, Sompal Kami took three wickets and Nandan Yadav claimed two wickets. Rohit Paudel and Kushal Bhurtel took one wicket each.
Nepal achieved the target set by Scotland with four balls remaining.
Asif Sheikh and Kushal Bhurtel shared a 74-run partnership for the first wicket. Bhurtel scored 43 runs, while Asif made 33. Dipendra Singh Airee played an aggressive innings, contributing an unbeaten 50 runs.
