Naseem Shah Fined $71,500 in PSL Controversy

Pakistan – Fast bowler Naseem Shah has been fined $71,500, the largest financial penalty in Pakistan cricket history, after criticizing Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on social media during the opening week of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Other players have also faced disciplinary action. Shaheen Shah Afridi was fined $3,500 for breaching security protocols, while Fakhar Zaman is under investigation for alleged ball tampering, which affected the outcome of a match against Karachi Kings.

Naseem claimed his social media account was hacked, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) rejected this and imposed the record fine despite his apology.

The PSL is also impacted by regional tensions with Iran, with matches being held behind closed doors and limited to two venues instead of six.

This year’s league faces scrutiny over management, controversies, and its overall image.
