Punjab’s Record-Breaking Victory

Kathmandu – Punjab Kings have registered another record-breaking win in the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

In the first match of the day held on Saturday at Delhi Capitals’ home ground, Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium, Punjab defeated the hosts by 6 wickets.

Maintaining their unbeaten run in the seventh match, Punjab successfully chased a target of 265 runs set by Delhi, reaching it in just 18.5 overs with the loss of 4 wickets, breaking their own record.

Punjab set a new record for the highest successful run chase in IPL history.

They surpassed their previous record of chasing 262 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2024 season.

In the historic win against Delhi, opener Prabhsimran Singh played a brilliant innings of 76 runs. Facing just 26 balls, he hit 9 fours and 5 sixes. He built a solid foundation with Priyansh Arya, as the duo added 126 runs in just 41 balls for the first wicket.

They also scored 116 runs in the powerplay, the second-highest in IPL history. Priyansh scored 43 runs off 17 balls with 2 fours and 5 sixes.

Captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 71 runs off 36 balls, hitting 3 fours and 7 sixes.

Nehal Wadhera scored 25, Cooper Connolly made 17, and Shashank Singh remained unbeaten on 19.

For Delhi, Kuldeep Yadav took 2 wickets, while Axar Patel and Vipraj Nigam took one each.

Earlier, batting first, Delhi Capitals posted a massive total of 264 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 20 overs, thanks to a record-breaking century by opener KL Rahul.

Rahul remained unbeaten on 152 runs off 67 balls, hitting 16 fours and 9 sixes.

He became the first batter in IPL history to score over 150 runs in an innings and now holds the third-highest individual score, behind Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum.

After losing their first wicket at 28 runs, Rahul and Nitish Rana built a huge 220-run partnership.

Rana scored 91 runs off 44 balls, including 11 fours and 4 sixes.

Pathum Nissanka was dismissed for 11, while David Miller remained unbeaten on 3.

For Punjab, Arshdeep Singh and Xavier Bartlett took one wicket each.

Punjab remain at the top of the table with 13 points from 7 matches, while Delhi are in sixth place with 6 points from the same number of games.
