Nepal Lose First Match of Women’s T20I Series Against Malaysia

Kathmandu – Nepal lost the first match of the five-match Women’s T20I series against Malaysia, falling short by just 3 runs in a nail-biting finish.

Chasing a modest target of 105 runs set by the hosts, Nepal managed to score only 101 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. With 7 runs required in the final over, Nepal could add only 3 runs, handing Malaysia a 1–0 lead in the series.

For Nepal, Puja Mahato top-scored with 30 runs, while Samjhana Khadka contributed 18 runs. Despite an unbeaten 13-run effort from Kavita Joshi, Nepal could not reach the target.

Earlier, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, Malaysia scored 104 runs for 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Winifred Duraisingam led the scoring with 27 runs, Ainna Hamizah Hashim added 26, and Mas Elysa made a quickfire 25 runs.

For Nepal, Somu Bista took two wickets, and Rubina Chhetri claimed one.

Nepal will play a total of five T20I matches against Malaysia during this tour. The second match is scheduled for Saturday, the third on Sunday, followed by the fourth on Tuesday, and the final match on Wednesday.

This series is part of Nepal’s preparation for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, which is set to be held on home soil in January next year.
