Nepal Defeats Oman by 6 Wickets in Warm-up Match Ahead of T20 World Cup Qualifiers

Kathmandu – Nepal began its T20 World Cup Qualifier preparations on a high note, registering a convincing 6-wicket victory over Oman in their first warm-up match held on Saturday.

Chasing a modest target of 111 runs set by Oman, Nepal reached the total in 17 overs, losing just four wickets. Opener Aasif Sheikh anchored the innings with a brilliant half-century, scoring 61 runs to guide his team to victory. Skipper Rohit Paudel supported with 25 runs, while Kushal Bhurtel and Kushal Malla chipped in with 11 and 10 runs respectively.

Earlier, Oman elected to bat first and posted 110 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Nepal’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, with Sompal Kami, Sandeep Lamichhane, and Dipendra Singh Airee each claiming two wickets to restrict Oman to a below-par score.

The match served as a crucial preparatory game for Nepal ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier. In the group stage, Nepal is set to face Kuwait and Japan. The team finishing at the top of the group will advance to the Super Six round.

The stakes are high, as the top three teams from the Super Six stage will secure a place in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
