“Victory over Scotland will further boost the team’s morale: Captain Rohit”

Kathmandu – Captain of the Nepali national cricket team, Rohit Kumar Paudel, has said that the victories against strong teams like the Netherlands and Scotland, along with good performances, will boost the team’s morale for upcoming matches.

While returning to Nepal on Sunday, Captain Rohit mentioned at Tribhuvan International Airport that it’s too early to claim significant improvements under new coach Stuart Law, but he acknowledged that the team’s environment has improved. In Scotland, Nepal had won three out of four matches in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 series.

Although Nepal had been performing poorly in the League 2 points table, their performance during this tour showed notable improvement. Rohit emphasized that it wouldn’t be accurate to credit the results solely to the new coach due to the short time frame, but he acknowledged positive changes in the team’s mindset and atmosphere.

He mentioned that coach Stuart Law has brought simplicity and directness to the training sessions. Instead of focusing too much on meetings, the coach has emphasized on-field performance and finding ways to win. According to Rohit, the credit for this success goes to the coaching staff.

In the T20 tri-series also involving Scotland and the Netherlands, Nepal won two out of four matches. Nepal showed improvement by defeating higher-ranked teams in the ICC standings.

Captain Rohit expressed hope that the victories against stronger teams will boost Nepal’s confidence for the next League 2 series. In the T20 series, Nepal played three Super Over matches against the Netherlands.

He admitted he hadn’t expected to play in three Super Overs and credited Nandan Yadav for playing a crucial role in reaching that stage. He noted that in Super Overs, there isn’t much time to strategize, and the results didn’t always go as desired. The third Super Over, in particular, didn’t go as planned.

Rohit stated that all players were given opportunities in the T20 series to ensure good backup for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier. He added that the pitch in Dundee was excellent and expressed confidence in the team’s improved batting.

Team member Nandan Yadav also said that practice matches before the tour contributed to the good results. However, he mentioned that a few mistakes in one of the four matches cost them the victory. He believed Nepal should have won the T20 series too, but due to shortcomings in certain areas, they couldn’t secure the desired outcomes.

Before the Super Over, Nandan remarked that if he had hit a six instead of a four, the match could have turned in Nepal’s favor — but he was unable to do so.
