Pokhara – Bindu Kumar Thapa, Minister for Social Development, Youth and Sports of the Gandaki Province Government, said that the Prime Minister Cup Gandaki Province Men’s One-Day Selection Tournament will provide an important opportunity for talented cricketers from the province to reach the national level.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the tournament organized on Thursday by the Gandaki Province Cricket Association, he said that sports is not only a medium of competition but also an important sector linked with discipline, unity, health, and national pride.
Minister Thapa mentioned that cricket has already been established as the most popular sport among Nepali youth and plays a significant role in developing energy, confidence, and positive thinking among them.
He said such tournaments provide players within the province the opportunity to showcase their abilities and also help create a pathway to the national team. According to him, selection tournaments like this are essential to identify talented players in Gandaki Province and help them reach the national level.
Minister Thapa also clarified that the provincial government is committed to the development of the sports sector, expansion of sports infrastructure, enhancement of players’ capacities, and promotion of sports culture. He said the government has been continuously working to attract youth toward sports by constructing playgrounds in various places across the province, conducting training programs, and organizing competitions.
Meanwhile, Sanjay Kant Sigdel, President of the Gandaki Province Cricket Association, said the provincial cricket association has been actively working for the development of cricket.
