Kathmandu – Two matches will be played today in the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
In the first match, starting at 11:45 AM, Chitwan Rhinos will face Janakpur Bolts. The second match between Karnali Yaks and Pokhara Avengers will begin at 4 PM.
As the league stage nears its end, the competition is becoming more exciting. Sudurpaschim Royals have already secured a place in the playoffs, while the remaining seven teams still have a chance.
With intense competition for a top-four spot, the upcoming matches will be decisive. Chitwan aims to strengthen their playoff hopes by defeating Janakpur. With 4 points from 4 matches, Chitwan needs a win to make their path to the playoffs easier. On the other hand, Janakpur, who have no points from 4 matches, must win to stay alive in the tournament. A loss against Chitwan would eliminate the defending champions.
Chitwan and Janakpur met in the league stage of the last edition, where Chitwan won by 32 runs.
In today’s second match, Karnali and Pokhara will compete. Both teams have collected 2 points, but Pokhara have played one match fewer (4 matches). Their playoff hopes depend heavily on the result of this match. If Karnali lose to Pokhara, they will be eliminated from playoff contention with only 2 points from 6 matches. Even if they win their final match afterward, they can reach only 4 points, which will not be enough for the playoffs.
Pokhara, having played just 4 matches, can keep their playoff hopes alive with a win. In the previous edition, Karnali defeated Pokhara by 7 wickets in their league-stage encounter.
After 19 matches, Sudurpaschim remain unbeaten in 5 games and are at the top of the table with 10 points. Kathmandu Gorkhas, who have played one extra match, stand second with 8 points from 4 wins and 2 losses. Biratnagar Kings, with the same number of points from 5 matches, are third, while Chitwan Rhinos sit in fourth position with 4 points from 2 wins and 2 losses in 4 matches.
