Kathmandu – The parliamentary committee has directed the government to provide an update on the progress of the ongoing upgrade work at the Tribhuvan University (TU) Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.
This directive was issued by the Implementation and Evaluation Committee on the Directive Principles, Policies, and Responsibilities of the State, which held a meeting on Friday at Singha Durbar.
The committee had previously conducted an inspection of the cricket ground on Shrawan 12 (July 27). Following that visit, Committee Chair Thakur Prasad Gaire issued a directive on behalf of the committee, requesting a detailed report on the developments since the visit. He stated, “After our inspection of the TU cricket stadium, the committee directs the concerned authorities to provide an update on the progress. We will also send an official letter on behalf of the committee.”
Currently, work is underway to upgrade the ground, construct pavilions (parapets), and install floodlights. Due to delays in project completion, the construction company has been made to pay penalties, and work is ongoing.
The pavilion construction is being carried out by BKOI KCDC BG Joint Venture (JV), while Bishan Ishwori JV has taken responsibility for installing the floodlights. Agreements with the Federal Secretariat Construction and Management Office under the Ministry were signed on Falgun 19 and 22 (early March 2025).
