Kathmandu – Nepal defeated the UAE in a nail-biting match, thanks to a brilliant all-round performance by Dipendra Singh Airee, who shone with both the ball and in the field.
Airee took three crucial wickets and contributed with outstanding fielding to help Nepal secure a dramatic 1-run victory.
This win came in Nepal’s first match of the Super Six stage of the ICC T20 World Cup Asia-East Asia Pacific Qualifier, currently underway in Oman. Chasing a target of 141 runs, UAE could only manage 139 runs for 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Despite a half-century from UAE’s Alishan Sharafu, his efforts fell short of taking the team over the line. Airee was the pick of the bowlers for Nepal, claiming 3 wickets.
Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, Nepal scored 140 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs. Opener Aasif Sheikh top-scored with 51 runs, while Kushal Bhurtel contributed 28, captain Rohit Paudel made 20, Kushal Malla added 10, Dipendra Singh Airee scored 1, and Gulshan Jha made 14. Sundeep Jora (4*) and Sompal Kami (6*) remained not out.
For UAE, Junaid Siddique, Mohammad Rohid, Zahid Ali, Harshit Kaushik, Haider Ali, and Dhruv Parashar each took a wicket.
With this win, Nepal has added 4 points to their tally in the Super Six stage.
