Kathmandu – Nepal has emerged victorious in the ICC T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia-Pacific Qualifier.
In the first match of Group ‘B’ held today at Oman Cricket Academy-1 in Al Amerat, Oman, Nepal defeated Kuwait by 58 runs.
Chasing a competitive target of 142 runs set by Nepal, Kuwait was bowled out for just 83 runs in 18.1 overs.
For Kuwait, opener Clinto Anto scored 26 runs while Yasin Patel added 19.
In bowling, Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane, Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi, and captain Rohit Paudel each took two wickets. Kushal Bhurtel, Sompal Kami, and Nandan Yadav claimed one wicket apiece.
Earlier, after losing the toss and being invited to bat first, Nepal posted 141 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Kushal Bhurtel top-scored with 66 runs off 56 balls, hitting three sixes and three fours. Gulshan Jha and Dipendra Singh Airee contributed 20 runs each, while captain Rohit Paudel added 16.
For Kuwait, Naveenraj Rajendran and Anudeep Chandamara took two wickets each, while Mohammad Akif Farooq took one.
Nepal will now face Japan in their next group-stage match on Friday.
