Nepal Women’s Cricket Team Seal T20I Series Win Over Malaysia

Kathmandu – The Nepal women’s national cricket team has claimed a memorable T20I series victory against Malaysia, edging the hosts 3–2 in a tightly contested five-match series.

The decisive fifth and final match was played on Wednesday morning in Kuala Lumpur, where Nepal delivered a composed performance to defeat Malaysia by five wickets. Chasing a target of 104 runs, Nepal reached the total in 18 overs, with key contributions from Rubie Poddar, who top-scored with 26 runs, and Pooja Mahato, who added 23. Veteran all-rounder Rubina Chhetry remained unbeaten on 15 runs and anchored the innings to guide Nepal to victory.

Malaysia had earlier opted to bat first after winning the toss. The home side managed to post 103 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Winifred Duraisingam led from the front with a solid 40 runs, but Nepal’s bowlers kept the scoring under control. Kavita Kunwar was the standout with the ball, taking 3 wickets for just 16 runs in her four-over spell. Rajmati Airee also matched the effort with 3 wickets of her own, playing a crucial role in restricting Malaysia to a modest total.

Malaysia’s bowlers did try to defend the target, with each of Nur Dania Syuhada, Aisya Eleesa, Aina Hamizah, Nur Alia Butrisya, and Mahira Izzati claiming a wicket apiece. However, the total proved insufficient against a determined Nepali batting lineup.

The series had been tightly balanced leading into the final match. Nepal had lost the opening game by a narrow margin of three runs, then bounced back with a six-wicket win in the second. A 13-run defeat in the third game had once again put the pressure back on Nepal, but the visitors levelled the series 2–2 with another six-wicket victory in the fourth, setting up a thrilling finale.

With the 3–2 series triumph, Nepal not only demonstrated resilience and growth but also gained valuable momentum ahead of future international competitions.
