Nandan Yadav Shines on Debut, Takes Three Wickets in First ODI

Kathmandu –  Nepali fast bowler Nandan Yadav delivered a stellar performance on his One Day International (ODI) debut, taking three crucial wickets in Nepal’s match against the Netherlands during the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 series held in Scotland.

Yadav, who had previously been named in the national squad but had not played, finally got his ODI cap after Sompal Kami was sidelined due to injury. Making the most of the opportunity, the young pacer produced an impressive spell of 9 overs, including 1 maiden, conceding just 39 runs and claiming 3 wickets. His effort helped Nepal secure a significant win and has been widely praised by fans and experts alike.

Although this was his ODI debut, Yadav had already represented Nepal in T20 Internationals earlier this year during a series in Hong Kong. His inclusion in the ODI squad had been anticipated, but he had to wait until the third match of the series for his chance.

Born and raised in Nepal, Yadav has been living in Australia, where he played club-level cricket. He returned to Nepal in November 2024 to participate in the Nepal Premier League (NPL), playing for Karnali Yaks. After the tournament concluded, Yadav was set to return to Australia, even holding a boarding pass. However, a phone call from his mother urging him to stay and pursue cricket in Nepal changed his path — a decision that is now paying off.

Paras Khadka – 4/26 in 10 overs vs Netherlands (2018)

Sushan Bhari – 3/14 in 10 overs vs Oman (2020)

With a confident start to his ODI career and prior experience in T20Is, Nandan Yadav has emerged as a bright prospect for Nepal’s bowling lineup. His discipline, determination, and impactful performances indicate a promising future for both him and Nepali cricket.
