Gaindakot Mayor Cup National T20: Lumbini and Madhesh Set for Title Clash

Nawalpur – Lumbini Province and Madhesh Province have secured their places in the final of the fifth Gaindakot Mayor Cup National T20 Cricket Tournament, currently being held in Gaindakot, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat–Susta East).

The final match will be played today at the Navajagaran Sports Ground in Gaindakot–9.

In Monday’s semifinal matches, Lumbini defeated host Gaindakot Mayors XI, while Madhesh overcame Sudurpashchim Province to book their spots in the title clash.

Lumbini Beat Hosts by 44 Runs

In the first semifinal, Lumbini Province defeated Gaindakot Mayors XI by 44 runs.

After losing the toss and being invited to bat first, Lumbini posted 181 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Gaindakot Mayors XI were bowled out for 137 runs in 19.5 overs while chasing the 182-run target.

Lumbini captain Dev Khanal played a brilliant half-century, scoring 74 runs off 50 balls, including six sixes and five fours. Prajwal Thapa contributed 38 runs off 19 balls (three sixes and two fours), Samrat Bhusal added 27 off 23 balls, and Dipesh Roka scored 15 off 10 balls. The other batters failed to reach double figures.

For Gaindakot Mayors XI, Chandrakant Paudel was the standout bowler, taking four wickets for 20 runs in his four overs, though he could not prevent the defeat. Gautam KC claimed three wickets, and Aparajit Paudel took one.

In the chase, Deepak Bohora scored 44 runs off 40 balls (one six and four fours), while Hari Chauhan made 42 off 34 balls (three sixes and four fours). Captain Gaurav Bishwakarma managed 12 runs, and the remaining batters failed to score in double digits.

For Lumbini, Salauddin Khan took five wickets, Bir Bahadur Ghartimagar claimed four, and Krishna Karki picked up one wicket.

Madhesh Defeat Sudurpashchim by Three Wickets

In the second semifinal, Madhesh Province defeated Sudurpashchim Province by three wickets to reach the final.

Chasing a target of 153 runs, Madhesh completed the chase in 18.2 overs, losing seven wickets.

Earlier, Sudurpashchim, after winning the toss and electing to bat, scored 152 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs.

For Madhesh, Pawan Sarraf played an unbeaten half-century, scoring 51 runs off 34 balls with five sixes and one four. Mayan Yadav added 38 runs off 27 balls, captain Anil Kumar Shah scored 33 off 14 balls (three sixes and three fours), and Abishek Tiwari made 10 runs. The remaining batters failed to reach double figures.

For Sudurpashchim, Kailash Air took three wickets, while Milan Bohora, Saurya Shrestha, and Lokendra Chand claimed one wicket each.

Earlier with the bat, Sudurpashchim captain Kiran Thagunna scored 34 runs off 23 balls. Roshan Saud made 29, Dipak Tamata scored 27, and Tek Rawat contributed 20 runs. Lokendra Chand and Kailash Air scored 10 runs each. Ranjit Kumar took four wickets for Madhesh, while Abishek Tiwari claimed three.

Tournament Details

The fifth edition of the Gaindakot T20 National Cricket Tournament, the biggest prize-money cricket competition in the district, featured eight teams — seven representing the seven provinces and one host team.

The tournament winner will receive NPR 300,000 along with the trophy, while the runner-up will be awarded NPR 200,000.
