NPL: Sudurpaschim and Lumbini Face Off for the Title

Kathmandu – The final match of the second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL), currently underway in the capital, will be played today. The final, scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, will see defending runners-up Sudurpaschim Royals take on Lumbini Lions.

Sudurpaschim advanced to the final after defeating Biratnagar by 77 runs in the first qualifier. Lumbini also secured their place in the final by beating Biratnagar by 40 runs in the second qualifier. Biratnagar, who had lost to Sudurpaschim in the first qualifier, got another chance to play in the second qualifier.

Led by captain Dipendra Singh Airee, Sudurpaschim are considered strong title contenders. Having lost last year’s final to Janakpur Bolts by five wickets, Sudurpaschim are aiming to clinch the title this time.

Lumbini, captained by Rohit Paudel, who were eliminated in the league stage in the previous edition, are determined to bring home the trophy this season. In the league-stage encounter between the two teams, Sudurpaschim had secured a seven-wicket victory.

The winners of the NPL will receive a cash prize of NPR 11 million, while the runners-up will get NPR 5.1 million. The third-placed team will receive NPR 2.5 million and the fourth-placed team NPR 1.5 million.

Organized by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), the tournament began on Mangsir 1 and featured the participation of eight teams.
