Kathmandu — In the Nepal Premier League (NPL), Lumbini Lions will bowl first against Chitwan Rhinos today. Lumbini won the toss and chose to bowl.
Today’s only match will begin at 4 PM. This is Lumbini’s first match of the second edition, while Chitwan is looking for their second victory.
Chitwan, who defeated Karnali Yaks by 4 wickets in their first match, aims to maintain their momentum and reach the playoffs. Last season was forgettable for Lumbini Lions. Under the captaincy of national team skipper Rohit Paudel, Lumbini managed to win only 1 out of 7 matches and finished at the bottom of the table.
Despite their below-average performance, Lumbini looks more balanced this time. Retaining six players including Rohit, Lumbini has strengthened its squad by signing Afghan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib.
Meanwhile, young all-rounder Kushal Malla is the marquee player and captain of Chitwan Rhinos. Despite an average performance last season, reaching the eliminator was considered a success for Chitwan.
Ten players, including two foreign recruits, are playing for Chitwan again this season. The team has further strengthened its squad by signing England’s batting all-rounder Saif Ali Zaib, who was the best player of the previous edition.
In the league stage last season, Lumbini defeated Chitwan by 33 runs — Lumbini’s only victory of the tournament. This time as well, Lumbini hopes to repeat that result, while Chitwan, fresh off a win against Karnali Yaks, aims to put up a strong performance.
