Construction of Cricket Stadium Begins in Lahan

Siraha – The construction of a cricket stadium has officially begun at Yagyabhumi in Lahan Municipality-4. The foundation stone for the project was laid today by Mayor Mahesh Prasad Chaudhary during a special ceremony.

The stadium, regarded as a pride project of the municipality, is expected to help nurture local cricket talent and facilitate the आयोजन of major tournaments. The total estimated cost of the project was NPR 82.3 million. However, through a competitive bidding process, the contract was awarded at nearly 30% below estimate, for NPR 56.2 million, according to Mayor Chaudhary.

The project is being funded jointly by the federal government and the local municipality. Out of the total cost, NPR 30 million has been provided by the federal government, while the remaining amount will be covered by Lahan Municipality. Due to the low bid, concerns have been raised about construction quality, and the municipality has stated it will maintain strict oversight.

Anik Yadav, Head of the Planning Division of Lahan Municipality, emphasized that the construction company will not be allowed to compromise on quality. “Even though the contract was awarded at a very low rate, there will be no leniency in quality. We will strictly monitor the work through a technical team to ensure the structure meets the agreed standards,” he said.

Addressing the ceremony, Mayor Chaudhary highlighted the importance of sports infrastructure for Lahan’s overall development. “There is great enthusiasm for cricket in Lahan, but players lacked a proper ground for practice. With this stadium, Lahan will become a hub for sports,” he said. The project is targeted for completion by the end of Chaitra 2083 (mid-April 2027).

The stadium, being constructed in the Yagyabhumi area, is also expected to positively impact the local economy and tourism.
