Kathmandu – Karnali Yaks have won the toss and elected to bowl first against Sudurpaschim Royals in the opening match of today’s Nepal Premier League (NPL).
Both teams have accumulated four points each and will take the field looking to strengthen their position in the tournament. Karnali, who have been in excellent form this season, are aiming to defeat Sudurpaschim for the first time. Meanwhile, Sudurpaschim, two-time finalists, face the risk of missing out on the playoffs for the first time if they suffer another defeat.
Karnali Yaks have made an impressive start to this edition of the tournament, delivering strong performances in their opening matches. They defeated Janakpur Bolts by 19 runs in their first match and Viratnagar Kings by four wickets in their second. However, they lost their third match against Kathmandu Gorkhas by four wickets. Karnali will now be eager to return to winning ways against Sudurpaschim.
South African explosive batter David Miller is also set to make his NPL debut in today’s match.
Sudurpaschim Royals, led by Dipendra Singh Airee, have experienced mixed results this season. Although they lost their opening match against Lumbini Lions by seven wickets, they bounced back impressively with a six-wicket victory over Pokhara Avengers in their second match.
However, Sudurpaschim suffered a 35-run defeat against Viratnagar Kings in a rain-affected match, putting pressure on the team to deliver more consistent performances.
The Royals have shown signs of regaining their momentum, though, after defeating Chitwan Rhinos by five wickets in their most recent match.
Sudurpaschim have also collected four points from four matches so far.
