Nepal’s Historic Performance, Defeat Hong Kong by 181 Runs

In their final Group D match of the ACC Women’s U-19 Premier Cup 2026 at the Bayuemas Cricket Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Nepal defeated Hong Kong, China by a massive 181-run margin. With this victory, Nepal registered their third consecutive win in the tournament. Nepal defeated all three group stage opponents by a margin of more than 100 runs.

After winning the toss, Hong Kong, China elected to field first. However, the Nepali batters played aggressively right from the start, putting the opposition bowling attack under pressure. Nepal posted a huge total of 211/6 in 20 overs. In reply, chasing a difficult target of 212, Hong Kong, China’s innings was restricted to just 30/9 in their 20 overs. As a result, Nepal secured a one sided 181-run victory.

On Nepal’s batting, captain Sony Pakhrin played the finest innings of her cricket career. She smashed an explosive 90 runs off 60 balls, putting Nepal in a commanding position. Her brilliant knock included 13 fours and 1 six. She finished just 10 runs short from a century.

The captain received excellent support from Sabitri Dhami, who completed a fine half century by scoring 52 runs off 36 balls. Her innings included 6 fours. The 136 runs partnership between Sony and Sabitri for the second wicket kept Hong Kong, China under pressure throughout the match.

Towards the end of the innings, wicketkeeper Alisha Kumari Yadav also played an aggressive knock, remaining unbeaten on 23 runs from 12 balls. She struck 3 fours. Among the other batters, Sana Praveen scored 4 runs, Anjila Pathak made 1 run, Karuna Bista added 5 runs, Krishma Gurung scored 1 run, while Riya Sharma remained unbeaten on 8 runs.

Extras also made a significant contribution to Nepal’s total. Hong Kong, China’s bowlers conceded 20 wides and 7 no-balls, gifting Nepal 27 extra runs.

Among Hong Kong, China’s bowlers, Nimbra Arab was the most successful, taking 2 wickets for 44 runs in her 4 overs. Wong Wing Kiu Hailey and Arooj Fatima claimed one wicket each, while Arna Senthivel and Leung Man Kei Megan went wicketless.

Chasing the huge target, Hong Kong, China’s batting remained under the complete control of Nepal’s bowlers from the very beginning. None of the batters managed to score freely. Although they batted the full 20 overs, they could manage only 30 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Nepal’s bowlers delivered a disciplined and outstanding performance.

For Hong Kong, China, Wong Wing Kiu Hailey was the top scorer with 13 runs from 45 balls. Captain Storm Emise Parker contributed 5 runs from 16 balls. No other batter was able to make a notable contribution.

With the ball, captain Sony Pakhrin destroyed Hong Kong’s batting lineup, taking 4 wickets for just 4 runs in her 4 overs. She claimed three wickets in her very first over and also bowled 2 maiden overs.

Similarly, Manisha Upadhayay picked up 2 wickets for just 1 run in her 4 overs. Sneha Mahara also bowled economically, taking 1 wicket for 1 run in her 2 overs. Nepal’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure from start to finish, giving Hong Kong, China no opportunity to make a comeback at any stage of the match.

After scoring 90 runs with the bat and taking 4 wickets with the ball, captain Sony Pakhrin was deservedly named the Player of the Match. The quarterfinal matches of the ACC Women’s U-19 Premier Cup 2026 will begin on 15 July.
