India Announces Squad for T20 Asia Cup – Shubman Gill Named Vice-Captain

Kathmandu – India has announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 Asia Cup, with Shubman Gill making a strong return. Gill replaces Axar Patel in the main squad and has been named the vice-captain, marking a significant promotion in his T20 career.

The squad will be led by Suryakumar Yadav, with several young and in-form players included. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson have been selected as additional opening options, although Gill is expected to play a leading role at the top of the order. Shreyas Iyer has also found a place in the main squad, while Yashasvi Jaiswal has been named among the standby players.

This tournament will be India’s first T20 assignment since the home series against England earlier in January. The team is placed in Group A, alongside Pakistan, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

India will kick off its campaign on September 10 against UAE in Dubai. They will then face Pakistan on September 14, followed by a clash with Oman on September 19 in Abu Dhabi.

The squad features a blend of experience and youth, with stars like Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kuldeep Yadav combining with rising talents such as Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, and Harshit Rana.

The list of standby players includes Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, all of whom could step in if needed.

India is expected to use this tournament to test combinations and build momentum ahead of future ICC events.
