Mendis Century Secures ODI Series Victory for Sri Lanka Over Bangladesh

Kathmandu-  Kusal Mendis’ superb century led Sri Lanka to a series win against visiting Bangladesh in the three-match ODI series.

In the third and deciding ODI, Sri Lanka clinched a commanding 99-run victory to take the series 2–1. Sri Lanka had won the first ODI by 77 runs, while Bangladesh bounced back in the second match with a 16-run win.

Chasing a target of 286, Bangladesh were bowled out for 186 in 39.4 overs. Towhid Hridoy top-scored for the visitors with 51 runs off 78 balls, hitting four boundaries and one six.

Other contributors for Bangladesh included Probij Hossain and Mehidy Hasan Miraz with 28 runs each, Zakir Ali with 27, Tanzid Hasan with 17, and Shamim Hossain with 12.

For Sri Lanka, Dushmantha Chameera and Asitha Fernando took 3 wickets apiece, while Dunith Wellalage and Wanindu Hasaranga claimed 2 wickets each.

Earlier, after winning the toss and electing to bat first at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Sri Lanka posted a total of 285 for 7 in their allotted 50 overs.

Kusal Mendis anchored the innings with a brilliant 124 off 114 balls, including 18 boundaries. Captain Charith Asalanka supported with a solid 58 off 68 balls, hitting 9 fours. Opener Pathum Nissanka scored 35, Kamindu Mendis added 16, and Janith Liyanage made 12 runs.

For Bangladesh, captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taskin Ahmed took 2 wickets each, while Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Tanvir Islam, and Shamim Hossain picked up one wicket each.

Earlier, Sri Lanka also won the two-match Test series 1–0 against Bangladesh. The teams will now face off in a three-match T20I series starting Thursday.
