Pant Reprimanded for Showing Dissent, Handed One Demerit Point
June 24, 2025Kathmandu-India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has received an official reprimand for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the Headingley Test match. Additionally, one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record. This marks Pant’s first offense in the last 24 months.
The ICC found Pant guilty of breaching Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match.
The incident took place in the 61st over of England’s first innings, when Ben Stokes and Harry Brook were at the crease. During that time, Pant was discussing the condition of the ball with the umpires.
“When the umpires refused to change the ball after checking it with the ball gauge, Pant showed dissent by throwing the ball on the ground in front of the umpires,” the ICC statement said.
Pant admitted to the offense and accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Richie Richardson. The charge was brought by on-field umpires Chris Gaffaney and Paul Reiffel.
