Australia Defeat South Africa, New Zealand Stunned by West Indies

Kathmandu – Australia comfortably defeated South Africa by 65 runs in the Women’s T20 World Cup on Saturday.

In the match played at Old Trafford, South Africa were bowled out for just 107 runs while chasing Australia’s target of 172.

Australia, aiming to secure a record seventh title in the tournament’s 10th edition, posted 172/8 after being put in to bat first.

In response, South Africa’s batting lineup collapsed under pressure. The Proteas, runners-up in the previous two editions, had defeated Australia in the semifinals of the 2024 World Cup, but this time Australia avenged that loss with a dominant victory.

The defeat leaves South Africa under pressure, as they must beat strong rivals India on June 21 to keep their semifinal hopes alive.

Meanwhile, defending champions New Zealand suffered a major setback early in the tournament.

In Southampton, West Indies defeated New Zealand by seven wickets, handing the title holders a surprise loss.

In another match in Manchester, Scotland defeated Ireland by 40 runs to register their first-ever victory in a Women’s T20 World Cup.

Ireland, who have been searching for their first World Cup win for the past 12 years, saw their losing streak continue. With this defeat, Ireland’s World Cup record now stands at 18 losses without a victory.
