Nepal takes revenge against Vanuatu

Kathmandu – Nepal comfortably defeated Vanuatu by 83 runs in the ICC Women’s T20 Challenge Trophy on Thursday, thanks to an outstanding performance by Kabita Kunwar, who claimed six wickets including a hat-trick.

Nepal had previously lost to Vanuatu in the first round. However, Nepal is already out of the title race. Their hopes of winning the tournament ended after the United States defeated Italy on Thursday.

With that win, the United States secured the championship. The tournament is being played in a double round-robin league format, where the team finishing at the top after all matches is declared the winner.

This victory marks Nepal’s fourth win in the tournament. Earlier, Nepal had defeated Rwanda twice and Italy once.

However, Nepal lost both of their matches against the United States. Nepal will now play their final match against Italy on Friday.

In the match held at Gahanga International Cricket Stadium in Kigali, Rwanda, Nepal batted first and scored 132 runs for the loss of three wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Kabita Kunwar then delivered a remarkable bowling spell, taking six wickets for just five runs in 3.4 overs, bundling out Vanuatu for only 49 runs.

For Nepal, Puja Mahato and Rachana Chaudhary also contributed with two wickets each.

Opener Samjhana Khadka scored a half-century, making 52 runs off 51 balls. She shared a 54-run partnership for the first wicket with Puja Mahato in seven overs.

Puja Mahato scored 19 runs off 20 balls, including one six, before getting out. Captain Indu Barma played a quick unbeaten innings of 43 runs off just 18 balls, hitting seven fours.

For Vanuatu, Rachel Andrew, Natalia Kakor, and Nasimana took wickets.
