Army and Sudurpashchim Register Fourth Wins in Prime Minister Cup

Kathmandu – An all-round performance by Basir Ahmad helped Tribhuvan Army Club secure their fourth win in the ongoing Prime Minister Cup One-Day Cricket Tournament.

 

In their fifth league match held in Janakpur on Thursday, Army defeated Madhesh Province by 6 wickets. Basir played a key role, remaining unbeaten on 41 runs and taking 3 wickets. This marks Army’s fourth win in five matches.

 

At the Ram Janaki Multi-Purpose Cricket Ground, Madhesh set a target of 185 runs. In response, Army chased it down in 29.2 overs, losing 4 wickets. Openers Trit Raj Das and Binod Bhandari gave a solid start with a 67-run partnership. Trit Raj scored 69 runs, while captain Binod contributed 32.

 

Kushal Malla was dismissed for 24, but Basir anchored the innings to victory. He scored 41* off 39 balls, including 3 fours and a six. Army secured the win with 112 balls remaining.

 

For Madhesh, Mohammad Adil Alam took 2 wickets, while Pawan Sarraf and Bishal Susling claimed one each.

 

Earlier, Madhesh were all out for 184 runs in 48.3 overs. Captain Anil Sah scored 42, while Bishal Susling added a half-century (51 runs). For Army, Basir took 3 wickets, while Shahab Alam and Naren Saud picked up 2 each.

 

Army remain unbeaten in the tournament and sit at the top of the table with 9 points.

 

Sudurpashchim Also Clinch Fourth Victory

 

In another match held in Birgunj, Sudurpashchim Province secured their fourth win, climbing to second place in the standings.

 

Led by captain Sher Malla’s outstanding bowling (5 wickets), Sudurpashchim defeated Gandaki Province by 2 wickets.

 

At Narayani Cricket Ground, Gandaki set a target of 191 runs. Sudurpashchim chased it in 39.2 overs, losing 8 wickets. They had a shaky start at 24/3, but a 68-run partnership between Abhishek Pal (66) and Deepak Bohora (35) stabilized the innings.

 

Later, Narayan Joshi remained unbeaten on 45 to guide the team to victory.

 

For Gandaki, captain Bipin Khatri took 5 wickets but couldn’t prevent the loss.

 

Earlier, Gandaki were bowled out for 190 runs in 49 overs. Arjun Kumal top-scored with 44 runs and is currently the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 244 runs in five innings.

 

For Sudurpashchim, Sher Malla took 5 wickets, while Hemant Dhami and Ashok Dhami claimed 2 each.
