South Africa in to semifinals

In the Super Eight, clash of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, South Africa registered a dominant 9 wickets victory over West Indies. In the match played on February 26 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmadabad South Africa chased down the 177-run target set by West Indies in just 16.1 overs, losing only one wicket.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, West Indies posted 176 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Romario Shepherd was top scorer with not out 52 runs, while Jason Holder contributed 49. Opener Brandon King scored 21, respectively Rovman Powell and Shai Hope added 9 and 16 runs to west Indies Score board. The remaining batters failed to reach double figures.

Lungi Ngidi claimed three wickets, while Kagiso Rabada and Corbin Bosch picked up two wickets each. Keshav Maharaj went wicketless despite conceding 43 runs. Marco Jansen also wicketless on his 4 over of bowling spell conceding 50 runs.

Chasing 177, South Africa made an aggressive start. Captain Aiden Markram led from the front with an unbeaten 82 runs, while Quinton de Kock scored 47 and Ryan Rickelton remained not out on 45. Markram and de Kock stitched together a 95-run partnership for the first wicket, laying a strong foundation. Thereafter, Markram and Ryan shared an unbeaten 82 runs stand for the second wicket to guide the team comfortably to victory.

Among the West Indies bowlers, Roston Chase managed to take the lone wicket, while the others went wicketless.

South Africa’s Aiden Markram was adjudged Player of the Match. With this victory, South Africa remain unbeaten in the Super Eight stage and have enter in to the semifinals.

In the Group 1 points table, South Africa states at the top with 4 points from 2 matches, while West Indies are second with 2 points from 2 games. India is third without a point from 1 match, and Zimbabwe on fourth, also yet to open their account after 1 match. Earlier in the group stage, South Africa had defeated India by 76 runs, while West Indies had overcome Zimbabwe.
