West Indies at the Top of the Table

Kathmandu – Two-time champion West Indies secured a 30-run victory over England in the T20 World Cup on Thursday.

With this win, the former champions moved closer to the Super Eight stage. After two consecutive victories, West Indies sit at the top of Group ‘C’ with 4 points from 2 matches.

England, also two-time champions, who had earlier defeated Nepal by 4 runs, slipped to third place with 2 points from 2 matches.

Chasing a target of 196 runs at Wankhede Stadium, England were bowled out for 166 runs in 19 overs.

For England, opener Phil Salt scored 30 off 14 balls, while Jacob Bethell added 33 off 23 balls. However, they failed to convert their starts into big scores. All-rounder Sam Curran remained unbeaten on 43 off 30 balls.

Among West Indies bowlers, Gudakesh Motie was the most successful, taking 3 wickets for 33 runs. Roston Chase claimed 2 wickets.

Earlier, powered by a fantastic half-century from Sherfane Rutherford, West Indies posted 196 for 6 while batting first.

Rutherford remained unbeaten on 76 off 42 balls. Jason Holder provided strong support towards the end with a quickfire 33 runs.

 

Australia Register Comfortable Win

Australia defeated Ireland by 63 runs in their second match on Wednesday.

With the win, Australia climbed to the top of Group ‘B’ with 2 points. Ireland suffered their second consecutive defeat.

Chasing Australia’s target of 183 runs, Ireland were bowled out for 115 runs in 16.5 overs.

Nathan Ellis and Adam Zampa took 4 wickets each. George Dockrell’s 41 was the highest individual score for Ireland.

Earlier, after winning the toss and batting first, Australia scored 182 for 6, with Marcus Stoinis contributing 59 off 29 balls.

 

South Africa Win in Super Over Thriller

The match between South Africa and Afghanistan turned dramatic and thrilling. South Africa won in a sensational Super Over finish.

After the match ended in a tie in regulation play, it went to a Super Over. The first Super Over also ended in a tie, leading to a second Super Over.

In the second Super Over, South Africa scored 23 runs without losing a wicket. In reply, Afghanistan managed only 19 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.

This was the first Super Over of this World Cup. With two consecutive wins, South Africa strengthened their chances of reaching the Super Eight from Group ‘D’. Afghanistan are now on the brink of elimination.

Earlier, South Africa had scored 187 runs in their allotted overs. Afghanistan responded with 187 all out in 19.5 overs, resulting in a tie.
