Bangladesh and the Netherlands Qualify for the World Cup

Kathmandu — Bangladesh and the Netherlands have secured their places in the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup.

Under the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, Bangladesh defeated Thailand and the Netherlands beat the United States in the Super Six stage to qualify for the Women’s T20 World Cup, which will be held in England and Wales from June 12 to July 5.

Along with host England, Australia, India, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka have already confirmed their participation in the World Cup. As per the tournament rules, four teams from the Global Qualifier being held in Nepal will qualify for the World Cup.

Ireland, Scotland, the United States, and Thailand will now compete for the remaining two spots. In the Super Six stage, Bangladesh and the Netherlands have both collected a maximum of six points each.

At the Mulpani Cricket Ground on Wednesday, Bangladesh defeated Thailand by 39 runs, registering their fifth consecutive win of the tournament.

At the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground, the Netherlands defeated the United States by 21 runs under the Duckworth–Lewis method on Wednesday. Batting first, the USA scored a modest total of 127 runs for the loss of seven wickets.

The Netherlands reached 90 runs for the loss of two wickets in 12 overs before rain interrupted the match. The Netherlands were then declared winners based on the Duckworth–Lewis calculation. Having won all four matches in the group stage, the Netherlands remain unbeaten in the tournament.

In that match, Netherlands all-rounder Heather Siegers was named Player of the Match for scoring 28 runs off 12 balls and taking one wicket for 19 runs.

Earlier on Wednesday at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground, Scotland strengthened their chances of World Cup qualification by defeating Ireland by 39 runs. Scotland are currently in third place with four points.
