Shaheen Afridi Appointed Captain of Pakistan ODI Team

Kathmandu – Shaheen Afridi has been appointed as the new captain of Pakistan’s One Day International (ODI) team. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the decision, replacing Mohammad Rizwan with Afridi.

 

The announcement was made after the first day of the ongoing Test match against South Africa in Rawalpindi, in which both Rizwan and Afridi are currently playing.

 

Signs of Rizwan’s removal had already surfaced. Although he led Pakistan to ODI series wins against Australia and South Africa since taking over last year, his position weakened following Pakistan’s early exit in the group stage of the recently concluded Champions Trophy.

 

The 25-year-old Afridi had previously captained the national team in a T20 series against New Zealand in 2024. He is considered one of Pakistan’s premier bowlers and was the leading wicket-taker in ODIs last year, with 45 wickets.

 

Under Afridi’s captaincy, Pakistan is scheduled to play a three-match ODI series against South Africa next month in Faisalabad.
