Nepal to Face UAE Today as Super Six Stage Begins

Kathmandu  – The Super Six stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia-Pacific Qualifier begins today, with Nepal set to face the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in its opening match of this phase.

The match will be played at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Oman and is scheduled to begin at 4:15 PM Nepali time.

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has dubbed this high-voltage clash against a familiar rival as the “El Clasico” of associate cricket, underlining the strong competitive history between the two teams.

Both Nepal and UAE have defeated Test-playing nations in recent times, adding further weight to this encounter. More than just a battle for two points, the match is seen as a contest for confidence and momentum moving forward.

Nepal qualified for the Super Six by winning both of its matches in Group B. The team defeated Kuwait by 58 runs in the opening match and followed it up with a five-wicket win over Japan. A victory today would mark Nepal’s third consecutive win in the tournament.

Similarly, UAE also enters the Super Six unbeaten, having won both its group-stage matches. In Group A, UAE beat Qatar by seven wickets and Malaysia by six wickets.

In the Super Six round, Nepal will play four of the five teams in the group: UAE, Qatar, Oman, and Samoa. Nepal will not play against Japan again, since both teams progressed from the same group.

At the end of this stage, the top three teams from the Super Six will qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, to be held in India and Sri Lanka in February–March 2026.
