Sandeep Lamichhane Travels to Oman with Team for T20 World Cup Qualifiers After Suspension

Kathmandu – Nepali leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, who was recently suspended for two matches against the West Indies, has departed for Oman along with the national team to participate in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup Asia Regional Qualifier.

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) had suspended Lamichhane for disciplinary reasons during the recent home series. However, CAN has clarified that the suspension was limited to the West Indies series and will not affect his participation in the World Cup qualifying tournament.

A 16-member Nepali squad left for Oman today to compete in the qualifiers scheduled from October 8 to 17. Lamichhane is included in the squad.

Nepal will face strong competition from teams such as UAE, Hong Kong, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Malaysia, and Kuwait. The top two teams from the tournament will secure their spot in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, set to be held in the USA and West Indies.

Nepal had also aimed for qualification in the previous edition but fell short in the final stages. This time, the team is expected to benefit from Lamichhane’s experience and bowling prowess as they seek to earn a coveted spot in the global event.
