Nepal’s Brilliant Victory Over West Indies, Clinches Series with One Game Remaining

Kathmandu – Nepal has won the Unity Cup title with one match still remaining.

In the second match held in Sharjah, UAE, Nepal defeated the West Indies by 90 runs, securing a historic series win with one game to spare.

This marks Nepal’s first ever T20I series victory against a Test-playing nation.

Chasing a target of 174 runs, the West Indies were bowled out for just 83 runs in 17.1 overs. Jason Holder top-scored for the West Indies with 21 runs off 15 balls, including two sixes. Nepal applied pressure early, taking 2 wickets for just 16 runs during the powerplay.

No West Indies batter was able to settle at the crease or build a significant innings against the Nepali bowlers. Opener Jeavor Royal scored 2, Kyle Mayers 6, Keacy Carty 1, Akeem Auguste 17, and Amir Jango 16 before getting out.

Adil Alam was the star for Nepal, taking 4 wickets for 24 runs in his 4 overs. He was brought into the squad after regular bowler Nandan Yadav was injured and made a strong comeback in his first game after suspension.

Kushal Bhurtel also bowled brilliantly, claiming 3 wickets for just 16 runs including a maiden over. Lalit Rajbanshi, Karan KC, and Dipendra Singh Airee each took one wicket.

Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to bat first at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Nepal scored 173 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Opener Aasif Sheikh remained unbeaten with a superb 68 off 47 balls, hitting 8 fours and 2 sixes. Sandeep Jora played a blistering knock of 63 off 39 balls, which included 3 fours and 5 sixes.

Together, Aasif and Sandeep built a century partnership for the fourth wicket, laying the foundation for Nepal’s victory.

Spinner Akeal Hosein had earlier put pressure on Nepal by dismissing Kushal Bhurtel LBW for 2 and bowling out captain Rohit Paudel for 3. After 3.3 overs, Nepal were 14 for 2. Then, Kushal Malla was run out for 7.

Adil Ansari contributed 11 runs off 5 balls, with 1 four and 1 six, while Gulshan Jha made 6 runs. For West Indies, Akeal Hosein and Kyle Mayers took 2 wickets each.

In the first match of the Unity Cup, Nepal had beaten the West Indies by 19 runs. The final match of the series will be held tonight.
