Core Camp in Full Swing Under Coach Stuart Law; Scotland Tour Amid Batting Concerns

Kathmandu – With the ICC Cricket World Cup League Two 2025 campaign set to begin in Scotland from June 2, the Nepal national cricket team is undergoing rigorous training under the supervision of Head Coach Stuart Law. The core camp, being held at the Mulpani International Cricket Ground and Lower Mulpani Cricket Ground, has reached its crucial third phase, scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday.

Coach Stuart Law has been closely monitoring each player with a sharp eye, focusing on building a well-rounded squad capable of handling the upcoming challenge against hosts Scotland and the Netherlands. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) is conducting this core camp as part of its structured preparation for the League Two tri-series, followed by a T20I series against the Scotland and Netherlands. T20 I Series will be played on Third week of June in Scotland.

In 2024, Nepal’s top-order batting remains a significant concern. Nepal lost 8 matches out of 12 and stands at 7^th position now on CWC League 2 Table.  Frequent collapses in pressure situations have exposed the lack of consistency among the Nepali batters, especially during away tours. Although Nepal lost 3 matches in home soil too. The batting lineup has struggled to form stable partnerships, and over-reliance on a few key players continues to haunt Nepal in crunch matches.

All Nepal Cricket Fan eye on How Coach Law and the team management are likely to prioritize mental toughness, adaptability to seam-friendly conditions, and technique refinement during this camp phase.

Nepal’s bowling unit also has not shown marked improvement over the past year. The pace duo and an evolving spin attack haven’t delivered under pressure, especially in away conditions. Despite that, The fielding standard has also risen significantly, with young players displaying athleticism and awareness on the ground.

If Nepal is to make a strong impression in Scotland, the bowling and fielding units will need to play a central role; particularly in defending modest totals or applying pressure early in the innings.

 

As Nepal prepares to face two strong European sides, a balanced team selection will be crucial. Some big names are not performing good enough in Jay Trophy and PM CUP. Coach Stuart is known for aggressive on result and selection of players. The team from 2024, Nepal may lose some big name in 2025. According to PM Cup and Jay Trophy Performance, Kushal Malla, Dipendra Singh Airee and Bhim Sharki on high risk to not get in to the national ODI Sides. Sompal Kami, Karan Kc and Sandeep Lamichhane’s recent form also concern for Nepal. Probably, Some Fresh faces like Basir Ahamad, Nandan Yadav, Sahab Alam will be inserted in ODI Squad of Nepal.

With less than a month to go for the match in Scotland, the coming weeks will be crucial in finalizing Nepal’s Squad.  The CWC League 2 series in Scotland marks the beginning of a long road toward 2027 ODI World Cup qualification. The T20I series that follows will offer Nepal further opportunity to test bench strength and improve ICC T20I rankings Because ICC T20 World Cup is coming in 2026!

All eyes are now on the third phase of the core camp as Nepal strengthens planning for one of its most important international assignments of the year.
