Sri Lanka Announces Squad for T20I Series Against Zimbabwe

Kathmandu – Sri Lanka has announced a 17-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20 International (T20I) series against Zimbabwe, scheduled to begin on September 3 in Harare. Star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out due to a hamstring injury sustained during the T20I series against Bangladesh in July.

Hasaranga was also absent from the squad for the two-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, starting this Friday. With the Asia Cup just around the corner, his continued absence raises concerns about his availability for the major tournament.

Charith Asalanka will lead the Sri Lankan side in the absence of regular skipper Dasun Shanaka, who remains part of the squad. The team features a blend of experience and youth, with players like Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, and Dushmantha Chameera included alongside emerging talents such as Vishen Halambage and Kamil Mishara.

The squad also sees the return of pace sensation Matheesha Pathirana, who was not part of the ODI setup. Spin duties will likely be shared among Maheesh Theekshana, Dunith Wellalage, and Dushan Hemantha in Hasaranga’s absence.

The T20I series will serve as valuable preparation for Sri Lanka ahead of the Asia Cup, which begins on September 9 in the UAE.
