Nepal Set to Take on Kuwait in ICC T20 World Cup Regional Qualifier Opener

Kathmandu – The Nepal national cricket team will begin its campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia-Pacific Regional Qualifier with a high-stakes clash against Kuwait today. The match, taking place in Oman, is scheduled to begin at 8:45 PM Nepali time.

With aspirations to make it to the ICC T20 World Cup for the third time, following their appearances in 2014 and 2024, Nepal is aiming for a strong start in the tournament. The team has been placed in Group ‘B’ alongside Kuwait and Japan.

The regional qualifier features nine teams divided into three groups. Group ‘A’ consists of Malaysia, Qatar, and the UAE, while Group ‘C’ includes Oman, Papua New Guinea, and Samoa Islands. The top two teams from each group will move forward to the Super Six stage, which will determine who qualifies for the World Cup.

Nepal’s squad for the tournament is led by captain Rohit Paudel, with Dipendra Singh Airee serving as vice-captain. The team features a mix of experienced players and rising talents, including Kushal Bhurtel, Sompal Kami, Sandeep Lamichhane, and Kushal Malla.

Having recently shown promising form in warm-up matches, Nepal enters the tournament with confidence and the ambition to secure a place in the global cricketing event once again. The match against Kuwait will be crucial in setting the tone for their campaign and keeping their World Cup hopes on track.
