Nepal Police Club has clinched the title of the 3rd MM Cup National One-Day Cricket Tournament. Police secured their maiden MM Cup trophy by defeating Tribhuvan Army Club in the final.
In the match held at the GP Koirala Cricket Ground on Saturday, Police overcame two-time champions Army by 24 runs. Interestingly, Army had beaten Police in both of the previous finals But this time for Police, Police avenged those losses with a decisive victory.
Chasing a target of 240 runs, Army were bowled out for 215 runs in 48 overs. Himanshu Dutta top-scored for Army with a composed half-century, hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes. Nishchal Chhetri added 36 runs, Imran Sheikh made 24, while Naren Saud chipped in with 21. Bishal Susling scored 18, and skipper Binod Bhandari managed only 7 runs.

Army had made a strong start, reaching 130 runs with just one wicket down. However, their innings collapsed after Himanshu Dutta was caught off Bipin Khatri’s bowling in the 27th over.
Sharwan Yadav was the pick of the bowlers for Police, claiming 4 crucial wickets including Binod Bhandari, Naren Saud, Tul Bahadur Thapa, and Sumit Shrestha. He conceded 63 runs in his 10 overs. Chitra Bista took two wickets, while Bipin Khatri and Sunil Daulal picked up one each.
Earlier, losing the toss and being sent into bat first, Police were bowled out for 239 runs in 50 overs. Arun Airee top-scored with 64 runs off 89 balls, hitting 1 four and 2 sixes. Skipper Shankar Rana added a valuable 51 runs from 81 balls, which included 1 four and 4 sixes. Deepak Dumre (36), Sharwan Yadav (32), and Avinash Karn (19) contributed useful runs for police.
For Army, Durgesh Gupta, Naren Saud, and Tul Bahadur Thapa bagged 2 wickets each.
As MM Cup champions, Nepal Police Club lifted the trophy with a cash prize of NPR 400,000. Runners-up Tribhuvan Army Club had just NPR 200,000.
Army’s Naren Saud was named the Player of the Tournament and received a cash award of NPR 25,000. From the winning side, Shankar Rana was awarded Best Batter, while Koshi Province’s Prem Kamat bagged the Best Bowler title. Both received NPR 15,000 each.
The players and teams were honored by Biratnagar Metropolitan City Mayor Nagesh Koirala and CAN Vice-President Roshan Singh.
The Tournament was Organized by the MM Cup Foundation Sunsari. There were 6 teams participants featured in the tournament, five from Nepal and one from India.
